While not everyone is fully on board with the Ontario government’s long-standing mandate to pursue a green agenda, it appears some Mississauga schools have benefitted in the form of upgrades.

The province recently announced that Ontario students are “benefitting from healthier, modern and more comfortable learning environments with new energy-efficient upgrades in nearly 600 schools across the province.”

The province says it is investing $200 million of proceeds from its carbon market and cap on pollution to upgrade energy-efficient school building components in 2017 and 2018.

The investment is part of Ontario’s Climate Change Action Plan. The government says the projects will also help fight climate change by reducing greenhouse gas pollution from school buildings.

Mitzie Hunter, Minister of Education, recently appeared in Toronto to announce funding for school improvement projects including new solar panels, hot water boilers and LED lighting systems.

As for what the Peel District District School Board and Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board schools (located in Mississauga and Brampton) are receiving or have received in terms of upgrades, the province says the following schools have received funding for the following projects:
