Is your home one of those places where there’s just stuff everywhere?

Are you a possible candidate for that disturbing reality show “Hoarders”, but are desperately looking to get off the waiting list and remove the stigma of being that person who just keeps ‘too much stuff’?

Then the Region of Peel may have just the thing for you.

Clothing and textile drop-off sheds have recently been installed in at the Region’s headquarters in Brampton and Mississauga.

“These clothing and textile drop-off sheds are part of a year-long pilot project in partnership with Diabetes Canada that was supported by Regional Council earlier this year. By donating unwanted clothing and textile items, residents will support the Region’s goal of 75 per cent diversion by 2034 and the net proceeds received from diverted items will go towards helping the one in three Canadians affected by diabetes or prediabetes,” the region stated in this press release.

Brampton’s drop off shed is located at 10 Peel Centre Drive, just outside Peel Region headquarters across from the Bramalea City Centre.

And the Mississauga location is at 7120 Hurontario Street.

“As the Region of Peel strives towards 75 per cent diversion, we are always looking for new items to get out of the garbage. By providing an outlet for residents to donate these clothing and textile items, we can divert nearly 10,000 tonnes of material to be re-sold, re-purposed or recycled,” says Erwin Pascual, the region’s Manager of Waste Planning.

Residents can also donate their unwanted clothing and textiles to one of Peel’s six community recycling centres.

Acceptable clothing and textile items include hats, bags, belts, ties, footwear, bedding, pillows, linens, curtains, sleeping bags, yarn and all cloth-based items.
