The Halton Regional Police Service says an investigation into the theft of specialized millwright and aerospace equipment from a local aerospace business began in early June after the company reported tools and equipment missing.
Investigators with the force’s 2 District Risk Mitigation Team allege the stolen equipment was later offered for sale on social media.
Police identified a company employee as the suspect and executed a search warrant at a residence in Brantford on June 30.
During the search, officers recovered approximately $250,000 worth of specialized millwright and aerospace equipment, along with more than $150,000 in Canadian cash.
Investigators also seized several high-end designer watches and sunglasses, which they believe were purchased using proceeds from the alleged theft.
Abhishek Kumar Patel, 30, of Brantford, has been charged with theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 for the purpose of trafficking.
He was held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing as officers continue working with the Oakville aerospace company to identify additional stolen property and determine whether further charges are warranted.
Halton police are encouraging businesses to report suspected employee theft, noting that internal theft can have a significant financial impact on employers.
Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to contact the Halton Regional Police Service’s 2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 ext. 2216 or provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
