The Strumbellas to headline downtown Oshawa’s Convergence Art and Music Festival

The Strumbellas have been called many things, including indie rock, alternative country, gothic folk and even farm emo as fans and music writers try in vain to pigeonhole their unique sound.
They’ve also been nominated five times for Juno awards and called to the stage twice, winning in 2013 in the Roots & Traditional Album of the Year for We Still Move on Dance Floors and again in 2017 for Song of the Year for Sprits, besting music superstars Drake, Shawn Mendes, The Weeknd and Alessia Cara in the process.
This fall the band will be called to Durham’s Music City when they headline the Convergence Art and Music Festival set to take over King Street East and downtown Oshawa September 22-24.
The six-piece band – four of the members hail from Lindsay and other two joined after a call to Craigslist – have captivated audiences worldwide with their unique blend of folk-inspired melodies, catchy hooks and powerful storytelling since forming in Toronto in 2008. Their infectious energy and dynamic live performances have garnered a loyal fan base and critical acclaim and the band’s hit singles, such as ‘Spirits,’ ‘Salvation’ and ‘Young & Wild,’ have topped the charts and become anthems for music lovers across the globe.
“We are thrilled to have The Strumbellas as the headliner for the Convergence Art and Music Festival,” said Krista Licsi, Director of Oshawa Tourism and the festival organizer. “Their music has a way of bringing people together, and that perfectly aligns with our festival’s vision of celebrating the convergence of art forms and creating a sense of community through music.”
The first annual Convergence Art and Music Festival will provide an “extraordinary experience where art and music seamlessly merge, creating an atmosphere of celebration, creativity, and unity,” Licsi added.

The festival will transform downtown Oshawa into a vibrant hub of creativity, featuring a diverse lineup of artists and musicians from various genres and styles. The aim is to showcase local talent while bringing internationally renowned acts, such The Strumbellas, to the forefront. All outdoor concerts will be free to the public.
In addition to the musical performances, attendees can expect to explore an array of art installations, interactive exhibits, and workshops throughout the festival grounds. The event will also offer a wide selection of food vendors with an international street food alley, artisanal crafts, a nerd alley and much more.
