Things are about to get very musical in St. Catharines as a regional competition is about to bring barbershop, a cappella choruses and quartets from both Canada and the United States to the local stage for two straight days.

From March 31 to April 1, the “Lake Ontario Region 16” competition will hit the stage at the First Ontario Performing Arts Centre as countless members of Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide organization of women singers, come to town, crooning for the crown.

Says Sweet Adelines International, “We are a diverse community of singers of all ages and abilities who come together through their love of barbershop music and stay together for the enduring friendships that result from singing close harmony.”

The Quartet competition will begin on March 31st, at 3 p.m. and the Chorus competition begins on Saturday, April 1st, at 12:30 p.m. and is expected to be watched by 700 audience members, as well as many more via a live webcast. Six quartets and 13 choruses are preparing to take the stage

With six quartets and 13 choruses are preparing to take the stage, residents who want to join in and show off their own pipes will get a chance at a Mass Sing, set for March 31 from 1 pm to 1:30 p.m., near the steps, at the rear of the Performing Arts Centre. There is no charge for the Mass Sing.

Tickets can be purchased at the box office beginning March 31 at 2:00 p.m. and 11:30 a.m. on April 1.
