The perfect March Break Outing for Toronto and the GTA is illumi

It’s hard to believe that March Break is right around the corner, but in a few short days, kids in Toronto and across the GTA will be off school for a week–and families like yours will be looking for something unique to do that appeals to people of all ages.

Fortunately for everyone, illumi – A Dazzling World of Lights, the world’s biggest light, sound and multimedia festival, will continue to welcome visitors of all ages from across the GTA. The stunning light, sound and multimedia show will be open every evening throughout March Break, from Friday, March 10 – Sunday, March 19. Prepare to be wowed!

Located in the city’s north end at 7174 Derrycrest Dr. (near Hurontario and the 407), the festival boasts over 20 million dazzling lights, separated into 14 universes that each have their own theme, music, and unique attractions.

This March, you won’t want to miss 14 spectacular universes that transport you to places you can only imagine. Families will experience everything from a candy wonderland, to Jurassic era dinosaurs, spiders (yes, spiders!), farm life, safari animals, and beautiful handmade lanterns.

Some universes you don’t want to miss include:

A Kid’s Paradise

Children will delight in this whimsical, out-of-this-world (literally) universe populated by colourful aliens enjoying a wide array of decadent desserts (think lollipops, cakes and ice cream cones).

Jurassic Encounter

Meet illumi’s gentle giants. Their prehistoric universe features the realistic animatronic Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptor. The life-size, automated dinos make you feel like you wandered onto the set of a Hollywood blockbuster.

The Colourful Animal Kingdom

Have you always wanted to take a walk alongside some of the world’s most majestic animals? This gorgeous universe will let you marvel at dazzling swans, giraffes, elephants, zebras and so much more. Get your selfie game ready because you’ll want pictures with all the glowing flamingos!

The Scarlet Spiders

Come make some unexpected friends. The Scarlet Spiders universe features a majestic larger-than-life mama spider and her 250 creepy-crawly children, all of whom are made up of eye-catching bright red lights. Go ahead and get close, they don’t bite!

The Magic Lanterns

This universe feels like a whirlwind vacation, even though it’s not far from home. The Magic Lanterns universe takes you on a journey to another continent, one known for magnificent arches, bright flowers, bamboo shoots, pandas and schools of beautiful koi fish. You won’t be able to miss the grandeur and splendour of our imperial dragon!

The Europea Place

This Europe-inspired universe is comprised of a merry-go-round with magical carousel horses, blazing streetlamps and music that will take you out of your element and transport you to a quaint, old-world neighbourhood.

The Crazy Boulevard

This funny and delightful jaunt through a make-believe suburban neighbourhood will allow you to take in the sights and sounds of modern life in the U.S., Pisa, Toronto, Rio and Montreal. It’s all big bungalows with little touches of Hollywood–something you don’t see every day.

The Tunnel of Love

Hold your loved ones tight for a gorgeous selfie in this mesmerizing tunnel. LED lights and delicate florals line every inch of the 30-metre-long kaleidoscopic corridor, making it an experience to remember.

The Happiest Farm

This enchanting exhibit takes you on a journey through a joyful farm full of gorgeous, fall-hued trees, chickens, pigs, cows and more. This homage to rural Canada is charming, memorable and, above all else, fun.

The Cavalia Horses

This elegant universe, inspired by Cavalia’s white show-horses, features a herd of 200 sparkling stallions. Made up of half-a-million lights, these graceful horses are surrounded by serene water scenes and the entire universe is set to music created by the Canadian composer Michel Cusson.

The illumi Tree of Lights and its Village

When you first walk in, you’ll be struck by illumi’s iconic tree of lights, which is as tall as the Statue of Liberty (47m) and can be seen from kilometres away. The spectacular tree is made up of 176,000 LED lights and is surrounded by a colourful forest that will look perfect in all of your March Break family photos.

There’s a lot more to discover at illumi, where each and every universe has something to enjoy. The options are limitless for you and your family this March Break!

Before expanding to the GTA, illumi found massive success in Quebec during the last three years – welcoming over 1.5 million visitors of all ages – and is eager to break that record here.
