The kids are back in school and so are bus cancellations, including 20 in Clarington and ten in Ajax

March Break is over so that means two things to parents of school-age children in Durham Region: the kids are back in school and bus cancellations, caused primarily by a chronic shortage of drivers this year, have made their return.

Fifty-two routes in total are cancelled today, affecting 29 schools. Thirteen of those schools and 20 of the routes are in Clarington, where the problem has been more acute.

Bus routes provided by Century Transport and First Student at Duke of Cambridge, Clarington Central Intermediate, Enniskillen, Vincent Massey, John James and Charles Bowman public elementary schools are cancelled in Clarington today; as are routes to Catholic elementary schools St. Joseph, Holy Family, Good Shepherd and St. Mother Teresa.

There are cancelled routes at local high schools Clarington Central, St. Stephen and Bowmanville as well.

In the rest of Durham there are 32 routes cancelled, including ten in Ajax at Southwood Park, Lincoln Alexander, Bolton Falby and Carruthers Creek; seven in Oshawa at O’Neil, Pereyma and McLaughlin high schools and The Grove public; six in Brock Township at Holy Family, CS Thorah Central and Brock Grove; four in Uxbridge (Uxbridge Secondary, Joseph Gould) and Pickering (Pine Ridge Secondary, St. Wilfred); and one at SA Cawker in Port Perry.
