Classes begin soon for the next generation of “supes” courtesy of Amazon Prime’s upcoming Mississauga-filmed The Boys spin-off Gen V.

While The Boys features the absolutely powerful and absolutely corrupt adult team of super “heroes” The Seven and the titular Boys working to bring them down, Gen V will instead follow the up-and-coming new crop of supes-in-training at Godolkin University.

God U, as it’s known, was portrayed by the University of Toronto Mississauga Campus (UTM). The series was long in the works before filming began, however. It was first announced in 2020 after the run-away success of The Boys‘ first season. This season and all those after have been filmed in and around Toronto including Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, and Oshawa.

The parent series, created by former Supernatural showrunner Erik Kripke and based on the comics of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, satirizes the likes of the Justice League and AvengersGen V, however, takes aim squarely at the X-Men, featuring a school for gifted youngsters all its own.

Patrick Schwarzenegger as Golden Boy, God U’s most popular pyrokinetic.

Amazon ordered the spin-off to series in 2021 marking the first spin-off in the so-called Vought-verse, named for the malevolent corporate entity that runs The Seven and created supes. The cast filled out over the next year including Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, Derek Luh and London Thor as the main class of students.

Patrick Schwarzenegger, Jason Ritter, and Clancy Brown round out the supporting cast while Jessie T. Usher, PJ Byrne, Colby Minifie, and Jensen Ackles are set to reprise their The Boys roles in guest appearances.

Filming got underway at the UTM in May 2022 and the Claireville Conservation Area in Brampton in July. Filming wrapped in September. A few months after Kripke announced the latest season of The Boys had also finished.

While that announcement was still hot off the press, Kripke followed up with the expected release window for Gen V saying the series will premiere in Fall 2023. “Trailer, premiere date, all of it being diligently worked on. It’ll be worth the wait. Hold onto your dicks and vaginas,” he wrote.

Additionally, Kripke included a link to a newly launched website GodolkinUniversity.com.
