A new restaurant has opened in a space formerly occupied by an upscale bistro in Mississauga.

Hello Bangkok opened at 62 Lakeshore Rd. E. in Port Credit this month.

The space was home to the highly anticipated Japanese fusion restaurant, Bonsai Asian Bistro & Bar, which opened in December 2021, but abruptly closed this summer.

The new restaurant owners have kept the elegant green and gold interior but the menu is much different.

The chef blends southern Thai cuisine with the street-style food of Bangkok, according to the Hello Bangkok website.

“Chef Yod has over 20 years of culinary experience, perfecting his craft in restaurants from Ko Samui to Bangkok,” the website reads.

The chef encourages guests to eat “Thai-style” by gathering with friends and family and sampling a variety of dishes.

The menu includes Thai classics such as crispy tofu, spring rolls, tom yum soup, curries and Bangkok-style pad Thai.

But Chef Yod includes some of his signature dishes such as the spicy “Southern Suicide” curry stir fry and “Labb Pla Tod”, a southern Thai crispy fish with mint, red pepper, red onion, green onion, coriander, served on roasted rice.

There are vegan, Halal and gluten-free options on the menu as well.
