It’s been a busy week for text scammers.

Some residents in Mississauga and Brampton may be getting a text scam that addresses them by name:

One local resident who received the scam text is confident that the scammers got her information from Facebook, as the name they addressed her with is one she exclusively uses on the social media platform.

Back in April, it was reported that a massive Facebook leak led to 533 million Facebook users’ phone numbers and personal data getting posted on a low-level hacking forum.

The leaked information included the phone numbers, full names, locations, email addresses, and biographical information of Facebook users from at least 106 countries.

As with all scam texts, residents are advised to avoid clicking the link and delete the message/block the number it came from.
