While Niagara Police are continually warning about scams going down text messages – many of them targeting seniors and the vulnerable – they have added that there is one text message from them that is legitimate.

If you call 9-1-1 to the Niagara Police from a cellphone, they will respond to let you your call was received, as well as the status or priority sequence of your call.

“The NRPS is implementing a new system that will allow us to notify those who’ve called from a cellphone about the status of their call,” the police said.

“If you’ve called 911, spoken with us, & receive this text message, it isn’t a scam. Assistance will be arriving as soon as possible.”

The Niagara Police posted the below example of a legitimate text from them.
