As the heat wave continues across southern Ontario, a new record was set in Mississauga.
The temperature hit a high of 35.8 C around 5 p.m. at Toronto Pearson Airport on Monday, according to Environment Canada records.
The current heat record for June 23 was 32.8 degrees and it was set back in 1983, Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson told The Canadian Press yesterday.
Environment Canada told news outlets it was also the hottest temperature recorded in the city since July 13, 2016.
On Tuesday, the heat warning continues with a high of 33 C or 42 C with humidity at Pearson. It doesn’t look like the city will break another record though.
The record high for June 24 at the airport was 35.6 C set in 1952.
Normal temperatures for this time of year are around 25 C for a high and a low of 13 C. With the humidity in the 40s, heat-related illnesses are a danger, particularly for vulnerable people.
Temperatures are expected to drop Wednesday but with a high of 28 C, it will still be above normal. Cooler weather is forecast for Thursday and Friday.
