TELUS Health helping 26,000 Canadian doctors conduct virtual visits with patients

As of April 8, TELUS Health has announced it will be permitting 26,000 doctors across the country to conduct virtual visits.
This will be made possible by integrating virtual visits into TELUS Health’s electronic medical records (EMRs).
Further, TELUS Health has accelerated the development of this virtual video functionality due to the global pandemic, now that physicians in Ontario and across the country can use virtual care fee codes.
The service will be offered for free for the first four months, and will allow physicians to continue to support their patients, and ensure their health records are up-to-date.
“This innovation is coming at exactly the right time,” Scott Styles, an Ontario pediatrician, said in a news release.
“As the health crisis continues to keep all of us in our homes, it gives me peace of mind knowing I can video chat with my patients to provide them with primary care support during this time of great need, keeping both of us safe from unnecessary exposure,” he continued.

This new feature will allow physicians to book appointments, conduct video consultations and update patient records all within their EMR.
Further, the virtual visit feature will be available via desktop, smartphone or tablet, to make things easier for physicians.
Moreover, the video call interface can be used side-by-side with the physician’s other EMR features, which will allow them to take notes and review patient records simultaneously.
As well, the ease of use isn’t limited to physicians, patients can open their appointment link from their preferred browser on their phone or computer, and it offers full audio and video capabilities, as well as a chat function that will allow them to communicate via written messages.
“Now, more than ever, we need to equip Canadian clinicians with the right digital tools to provide effective healthcare and ensure continuity of care for their patients,” Luc Vilandré, President of TELUS Health and Payment Solutions, said in the same release.
“We’ve worked around the clock to make EMR-integrated virtual care available much sooner, giving our physicians the ability to conduct virtual consultations via video while leveraging digital records and information,” he continued.
