A 16-year-old boy who suffered life-threatening injuries after a fiery crash in north Whitby last month has been charged with dangerous operation and stunt driving after an investigation by Durham Police.
The driver had to be airlifted by AirOrnge to a Toronto trauma centre after the single vehicle collision on Duffs Road on June 11. His condition was later upgraded to stable.
A 17-year-old passenger in the car was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Police said an Audi sedan was travelling northbound on Duffs Road, south of Townline Road, at 8:30 p.m. on June 11 when the driver lost control, went off the roadway, and caught fire. Officers arrived on scene and discovered two occupants still in the vehicle.
Following the investigation, members of the Collision Investigation Unit arrested the driver of the Audi and laid charges.
He was released on an Undertaking.
