Assault and firearms charges have been laid against the alleged teenage shooter at a house party in Caledon last month.
The shooting happened at a large house party known as “Shark Tank” at a residence on Castlederg Sideroad in Caledon around midnight on Aug. 11, the OPP said.
Officers arrived on the scene to find one victim who had been injured by an “apparent gunshot wound.” The unidentified victim was rushed to a Toronto-area hospital, police said.
Police initially called the incident a “disturbance” and closed part of Castlederg Side Rd. for hours while officers were on scene.
Investigators put out a plea for anyone with information about the shooting to contact police, who now say a teen was arrested on Thursday and charged with multiple offences in relation to the incident.
The OPP has charged a 17-year-old youth from Markham with aggravated assault, discharge firearm with intent, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm among other offences.
The accused is being held in police custody and is scheduled to make a court appearance in Orangeville on Sept. 20 to answer the charges.
Police say the name of the accused cannot be released under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
