Teen charged in pair of retail armed robberies in Pickering

A teenager has been charged in connection to two retail robberies in a Pickering plaza last night.
The teen walked into an independent grocery store in a plaza on Brock Rd. and Dellbrook Ave. in the city’s north end around 9:15 p.m. Mar. 2, Durham Regional Police claim.
Investigators allege the boy pulled a knife on a cashier and demanded money. However, another employee called 911 and the teen fled the store.
Uniformed officers and the Tactical Support Unit responded to the scene shortly thereafter to search for the lad. He was soon found and arrested.
While on scene, police learned the teen had allegedly entered a convenience store in the same plaza before he went to the grocers. This time police say the teen was armed with a length of wood and again demanded cash.
This robbery too was unsuccessful. No one was hurt in either robbery attempt.

The suspect, 15 of Pickering, is charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of possession of a weapon while committing an offence. His identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
