Mississauga’s Andre Pilon thought it was some kind of gag being played on him when he recently checked his lottery ticket.

“When I scanned my ticket while at the gas station and saw ‘Big Winner’ appear, I thought it was a joke,” said the 42-year-old father when he went to claim his $500,000 prize. “My wife was outside, so I went to get her – she cried tears of joy!”

Pilon was a winner with Maxmillions in the June 22 Lotto Max draw, splitting the $1 million prize with someone else who had the same number. Pilon also won $2 on his Encore selection in the same draw.

He plans to pay some bills, invest and put some aside for his children’s future.

“It’s an amazing blessing – this money will go a long way for my family,” he said. “It was awesome to share that moment with my wife.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Stop & Go Food Market on Eglinton Ave. in Mississauga.
