Take a Left for Some of the Best Restaurants and Cafés in Mississauga
Here in Mississauga we take pride in our little village by the water, which has become one of the city’s top tourist destinations and an overall fantastic area to spend some time or do a little shopping.
However, even some long-time residents may not realize just how much energy and lively entertainment east Port Credit has to offer, especially on Lakeshore where a variety of excellent restaurants, cafes, bars, and independent, locally owned retailers are situated.
It’s for those residents that the Port Credit BIA is kicking off its “Take A Left” campaign, which celebrates the vibrant businesses and emerging arts scene found on the east side of the urban village (particularly from east of Hurontario to Beenchwood Avenue). Next time you’re heading down to Port Credit, take a left on Lakeshore to experience a side of Port Credit that offers so much more than you might think!
If you’re hungry for a bite, east Port Credit has some of the best restaurants in the city (and the best patios to match), some of which have made their way into our Top 5 Wings, Thai, Italian, and Greek restaurants.
It boasts one of the city’s only Montreal-style bagel spots in the form of Old Bagel House, popular sports bar Wingporium, vegan restaurant Nourish Moi, and several Thai restaurants including Thai House Cuisine. You’ll find hidden gems like Aielli Ristorante with its newly opened patio, and Colossus, one of the best Greek restaurants in the city with an intimate dining and patio experience.
If you’re feeling more like coffee or dessert, then you’re invited to try something from any of the bakeries, indie roasters and cafes such as Social Coffee Bean (which provides opportunities to those in the community with mental health issues). There’s also Yumbudz, one of the few ice cream spots in the city with outdoor seating, and bubble tea at Bobacha Cafe.
New restaurants are opening soon in Port Credit, so keep an eye out! Port Credit’s restaurant listings can be found here.
One of the most memorable things about Port Credit is its visual identity - the community on Mississauga’s waterfront oozes a sense of charm that you can’t quite find elsewhere in the city, and the design of every business fits into that. Whether it’s a one-of-a-kind retail shop, indie cafe, barber shop, tattoo parlor, or a fitness/dance studio, the artistic elements they each incorporate help make Port Credit a sight for sore eyes.
Some of Port Credit’s more unique businesses include Ric’s Recollections, one of Mississauga’s biggest record stores selling high-quality collectible vinyl records for rock, jazz, blues, and a ton of other genres.
For the men who need some touching up, CABIN: Barber and Gentlemen Supply is exactly what it sounds like - a cozy cabin experience complete with a fireplace. Not only is it a barbershop, it sells a variety of facial products, leather goods, underwater, hats, and various other accessories.
Health-conscious shoppers should also be sure to check out the various indie shops in Port Credit focused on health and wellness, such as juice bar Raw Blendz.
Feeling artsy? Port Credit is home to some incredible art galleries and craft stores that you need to visit at least once if you’re seeking some creative inspiration. 2 For Art Studio features a variety of art pieces that range from classical to contemporary, while Pixie Blue Studio provides a unique space for artists, artisan makers, photographers, poets, writers, and musicians. The newly expanded Pazan Gallery (the biggest art gallery in Port Credit) also provides services such as picture framing and photo restoration.
However, residents who prefer natural beauty won’t be disappointed either - Port Credit has some of the best nature spots and outdoor scenery in Mississauga, and its proximity to the lake water makes it a great place for fishing and water sports.
Calling all vintage vehicle lovers! Classic Cars Thursdays has been extended for two more weeks!
