Syringes spotted near Brampton school spark a warning

A Brampton resident spotted needles or syringes scattered near a school this week, raising concerns for the community.
The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said they saw the mess on Tuesday (Aug. 2) morning near Terry Fox Public School. They snapped a photo and posted it to Reddit with a warning to the neighbourhood.
“Saw this near Terry Fox School,” the person posted. “Be careful of your pets and children.”
A few Reddit commenters noted the lack of needles in the photo. They speculated drug users didn’t leave the syringes.
“If I had to bet, someone planted them there so they could drum drama with the school and the city,” one person wrote.
Other people were worried about children playing in the area.
The City of Brampton did not immediately respond for a request for comment.
But the Region of Peel says people can contact 3-1-1 if they see a needle on public property.
Those looking to dispose of needles shouldn’t leave them in a park, playground or other public area or throw needles into sewers or garbage cans. They also shouldn’t be flushed down the toilet.
There are 24-hour needle drop boxes located at the Peel Public Health in Brampton clinics.
