Investigators are reaching out to auto repair shops, dealerships and scrap yards as they continue to search for the driver of an SUV that struck and critically injured a young woman in west Mississauga two weeks ago before speeding away from the scene.

While Peel Regional Police said they’ve recovered the black 2018 Honda CR-V involved in the late-night Jan. 14 hit-and-run at Bristol Road West at Loonlake Avenue, they’re still trying to determine who was driving the vehicle at the time.

In a news release on Saturday, police said they found the SUV on Jan. 18 in the area of White Clover Way and Apple Blossom Circle, a residential area near Mavis Road and Highway 403 and just a few blocks southeast of the crash scene (see map below).

A Peel police spokesperson told INsauga.com efforts that included canvassing the area of the collision, collecting witness statements and receiving information from an initial plea for public help all aided in police locating the SUV four days after the collision.

Police didn’t say if the Honda CR-V was located in the driveway of a home, parked on a street or at a neighbourhoood park nearby.

Police did say, however, that “upon inspection of the vehicle, investigators observed that parts had been replaced and repairs completed.”

As their search for the driver continues, investigators say they’re seeking help from dealerships, garages, scrap yards or parts retailers who may have sold parts or completed repairs on the black 2018 Honda CR-V.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-453-2121, ext. 3710, or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

The woman who was struck just a minute or so before midnight on Jan. 14 at the intersection in the city’s west end, described by police as being in her 20s, remains in critical condition.

She had reportedly just stepped off a public transit bus and was attempting to cross Bristol Road West at Loonlake Avenue when she was hit by the eastbound SUV, which may have been speeding.

Police told INsauga.com earlier the woman was walking southbound across Bristol Road West on a green light, her right-of-way, when she was struck.

The driver of the SUV quickly “fled the scene without rendering assistance,” police said earlier.
