A suspended driver from Pickering face more than a dozen charged charges after police say they found cannabis and a gun when they pulled him over.

According to Durham Regional Police, officers pulled the man over around 8:30 p.m. on January 11. He was driving through the Brock Rd. and Usman Rd. area. The intersection is home to the Pickering Islamic Centre, just north of Kingston Rd.

On closer inspection, police learned the man had a suspended licence. They claim they also found cannabis readily available in the car. Knowing this, the officers searched the car even closer and discovered a loaded pistol.

The cops seized the gun and arrested the driver. As a result, Shomari Edwards, 24 of Pickering, has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possessing a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, tampering with a serial number and obstructing a peace officer, among several others. He remains in custody until a bail hearing.
