A man from Oshawa was arrested in Cobourg last weekend after he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.

Cobourg Police received a call at 9:20 p.m. on December 10 to report a sleeping man had slowly driven into the intersection of Elgin St. and Ontario St., just minutes from the eastern Hwy 401 on-ramp in town.

When first responders arrived at the intersection the man appeared to be asleep police sat and, paramedics checked him over. He blew a zero blood-alcohol level into the breathalyzer.

However, police say further investigation revealed the man had given a false name and was in fact a suspended driver. As a result the driver, age 40, faces charges of obstructing police, suspended driving and failure to show identification.

He will appear in a Cobourg courtroom on January 11.
