An argument involving two men outside the emergency department at Oshawa Hospital Wednesday turned ugly when one man pulled out a gun and made threats, prompting a police search after the suspect fled back inside the hospital.

Police responded to an armed person call just after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday after reports of the verbal altercation outside the hospital. Police said one of the men involved pulled out a firearm and made threats before fleeing inside the hospital.

Officers arrived on scene and searched the hospital and the suspect was located a short time later and taken into custody. A search discovered an imitation firearm in his possession.

No persons suffered any physical injuries.

The accused was already bound by a weapons prohibition at the time of his arrest.

Lorne Fredrick McConnell, 46, of Oshawa, was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, fail to comply with a release order and two probation breaches. He was held for a bail hearing.

Anyone with cell phone, dash cam, surveillance footage, or information about this incident is asked to contact Cst. Vanberkel of Central East Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1701.
