A man who was on the run from police across the GTA after a Toronto cop was shot and killed in the Meadowvale area of Mississauga this afternoon has been arrested by police in Halton.

Halton Regional Police posted to social media about 20 minutes ago that a suspect is now in custody.

He had been briefly the subject of a massive and wide-scale manhunt since the Toronto Police officer was shot to death in a double shooting outside a Tim Hortons in Mississauga at about 2:15 p.m.

The shooting prompted a manhunt across the GTA and beyond as police in Peel, Toronto, Halton and Hamilton were searching for the culprit who was believed to be “armed and dangerous” and travelling in a stolen black Jeep Cherokee.

Another person was shot in the Mississauga incident, which took place in the Argentia Rd./Winston Churchill Blvd. area in the northwest part of the city, according to Peel Regional Police.

That person’s condition is not believed to be life threatening.

There’s still a huge police presence at the Mississauga scene, including a number of Toronto officers.

Meanwhile, about 35 minutes after the Mississauga shooting, another multiple shooting that appears to be related took place just to the west, in the Bronte Rd. S./Main St. area of Milton.

In that incident, which took place outside an auto repair shop, one person was killed and two others injured, according to police.

The culprit there was reported by police to be driving the same Jeep Cherokee as the Mississauga shooter.
