Suspect at large after assault, attempted robbery over a pair of shoes in Ajax

Police are searching for a man after an assault and attempted robbery in Ajax last month over a pair of shoes.

Durham Regional Police said the suspect “assaulted and attempted to steal a pair of shoes” from another man near Tozer Crescent and Williamson Drive sometime between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on June 5 before fleeing.

The victim suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as Black, approximately 5’8” with a slim build and medium length afro style hair. He was wearing a black zip-up hooded windbreaker, black t-shirt, black jeans and black/white sneakers.

Anyone with cellphone, dash cam, surveillance footage, or any information about this incident is asked to contact Det. Obront of the West Crime Team at 1-888-579-1520 x 1905.

This is the third shoe robbery incident reported by police in Durham already this year:

  • Two teens were charged after a robbery and assault over a pair of shoes outside an Oshawa townhouse complex in March.
  • A 14-year-old was arrested after an armed robbery over a pair of shoes in Pickering in January.
