A suspect has been arrested after the St. Catharines Fire Department posted this morning (April 21) that they were fighting a blaze at the old Maranatha Christian Reform Church (301 Scott St.), already slated for demolition.

At 8:50 am, the St. Catharines firefighters said, “The fire is contained and under control and firefighters continue to pour water to extinguish any hot spots remaining under debris following the collapse of the structure.”

Since the church’s property was already fenced off, they added, “There are no concerns for public safety. The road is closed between Tabor Drive and Forster Street. Please avoid the area.”

Thus far, the Niagara Police have not given any statement regarding either the fire or the suspect.
