A food vendor that’s been selling Japanese-inspired sushi tacos on the streets of Toronto during festivals and events has now opened up a physical store where you can dependably get its eats anytime.

Japan Taco serves up sushi tacos in crispy seaweed shells with a variety of fillings, perfect for holding in your hand as you walk down the street during a busy event. Now, however, if you want to grab those same tacos from a store to bring home and enjoy on your couch, you can do just that.

The food vendor has been present at huge events that draw attendants from all over the city and beyond, including the Winter Village in the Distillery District and Taste of Little Italy. Their menu at the physical store consists of a lineup of sushi tacos with fillings that play off classic familiar Japanese dishes and ingredients.

The Saikoro steak sushi taco has grilled diced beef, rice, pico de gallo, guacamole and green onion, and the spicy salmon sushi taco has cooked salmon, rice, spicy mayo, cucumber and sesame seeds. Their Sensei unagi sushi taco comes loaded with grilled Japanese eel, rice, ginger, cucumber, guacamole, coleslaw and sesame seeds.

The Buta shoyu sushi taco is made with slow-cooked pork belly with shoyu, rice, coleslaw, pickled radish and green onion, and the chicken yakitori sushi taco has charred chicken thigh marinated in a savoury soy sauce along with rice, coleslaw, pickled ginger and green onion.

The resto even has a lobster and shrimp sushi taco with lobster, shrimp, yuzu, black fish roe, Japanese mayo, cabbage, cucumber and green onion.

People have been responding very positively on social media to the news that Japan Taco has opened its own physical store in Toronto, saying it’s exciting and that they can’t wait for it to officially open its doors.

“Omg, my boyfriend was just asking me if they had a store, I told him only temporary spots at limited times! This is a dream!” one person commented online. Japan Taco replied, “Thank you for all the support!! Can’t wait to see you again.”

People are even requesting more locations of the sushi taco shop already.

“Great job,” someone commented on social media. “Please open another one in square one Mississauga too! Thank you!”

Japan Taco’s own physical store in Toronto is now open at 252 Queen St. W.
