'Surreal' $2M lottery win will help pay off parent’s mortgage, Brampton winner says

A Brampton woman is sharing the wealth and helping her family pay bills after winning a massive $2 million lottery prize.

April Dang has been playing OLG games for the last five years and usually plays her own numbers based on significant dates in her life.

The self-described dog-mom from Brampton plays Ontario 49 and occasionally picks up Lotto Max or Lotto 6/49 tickets, and was stunned to win $2 million last month.

“I was sure my eyes were playing tricks on me,” Dang said of her win when checking the OLG app. “I even refreshed the screen to make sure it was true. I couldn’t register what was happening. I was shocked.”

Still in disbelief, Dang asked her mom to double-check the ticket.

“When she confirmed all the winning numbers matched, she was so excited, and I was left stunned,” Dang said. “We didn’t sleep all night. I kept rechecking my ticket on the OLG app while trying to come up with a game plan.”

She called the win “joyful and surreal,” and says she will use some of the winnings to pay off my parents’ mortgage and some renovations.

“It still doesn’t feel real. It’s like my brain can’t comprehend what’s happening,” she said.

Ontario 49 is $1 per play and the draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday. The OLG says it supports safe play and responsible gambling through its PlaySmart program.

The winning ticket was purchased at Lucky Lotto Centre on City Centre Drive in Mississauga.
