Judging by the long line-up of customers this morning (April 9), a new supermarket has already been deemed a success.
The crowd began forming at the crack of dawn at the Ridgeway Drive and Dundas Street West location of the store, which has opened to serve both Mississauga and Oakville customers.
It’s the type of reaction that operators of T&T Supermarket were hoping for.
“This is great, I love what T&T has to offer,” Joseph Chin told a film crew as he entered the store. “They really put the super into supermarket.”
With a huge, 40,000 sq-ft space built on the parking area of the long-gone Silver City Cinemas, T&T markets itself as an “Asian” supermarket that specializes in fresh produce, seafood, meat, bakery items, and a variety of Asian specialty foods that are not widely available at other large grocery stores.
It also has a hot food bar, and counters for dim sum, sushi and Hong Kong-style barbecue, as well as some department store-type items.
Technically located in west Mississauga, operators say the store is strategically located to be easily accessible to shoppers in the western GTA. T&T opened its first Mississauga location about 20 years ago at Central Parkway West and Mavis Road.
“We’ve been looking to serve the Oakville community for a while now, and we have finally found a great location that will do that and more,” said T&T Supermarket CEO Tina Lee recently. “Right now, we have customers on the west end driving over 30 minutes to shop at our T&T at Central Parkway. With this new T&T, we’ll be able to serve not only Oakville, but also Milton, Burlington and beyond.”
Founded in 1993 in Vancouver, T&T now has 39 stores in Canada and the U.S.
Although once independently owned and operated, T&T was acquired by Loblaws in 2009.
