Sunshine List shines on Whitby Mayor Roy as highest paid Mayor in Durham Region

The sun shines on Elizabeth Roy every pay period, with the Whitby Mayor topping the list for highest paid elected officials in Durham Region, as per the Ontario Sunshine List, the annual compilation of all public sector employees earning more than $100,000 per year.

Roy earned $189,346.73 in salary, plus $19,740.63 in taxable benefits. Including those benefits, Ajax Mayor Shaun Collier wasn’t far behind, with $156,665.05 in salary and $31,538.31 in taxable benefits.

Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter made $147,926.82 in salary in 2023, with just $484.20 in taxable benefits. Pickering Mayor Kevin Ashe collected $124,138.77 in salary, but his $25,124.74 in benefits nudged him slightly ahead of Carter.

In fifth spot is Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster, with $115,652.27 in salary and $1,532.94 in taxable benefits.
