Ryerson Park and Public School to be renamed

The Burlington Youth Student Council (BYSC) will be discussing the renaming of Ryerson Public School during their first assembly of the year.

The renaming of the school follows the renaming of Ryerson University, which was named after Egerton Ryerson–a public figure who was heavily involved in Canada’s residential school system.

The meeting will take place this coming Tuesday (Sept. 28) from 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm.

The BYSC is comprised of high school students from Burlington who are interested in becoming more involved with local initiatives.

Youth are encouraged to join in on meetings and provide their own feedback and comments.

Meetings are an hour and a half in length and guests are invited to speak for the first 60 minutes. The last 30 minutes are dedicated to debriefing, sharing feedback, open collaboration, and ideas for future connection.

“We encourage you to come to all meetings, but we realize that youth are busy! Try your best to come to as many meetings as you can or join the topics that interest you the most!” the organization said.

More information on the BYSC can be found on the city’s website.
