Structure fire on east Hamilton Mountain reported
Published February 1, 2022 at 10:29 pm

A multiple-alarm blaze in a large commercial building on the East Mountain grew so large that a forced power outage was required in the area.
Over a dozen firefighting crews were called in late on Tuesday night. The Hamilton Fire Department expected it would take firefighters several hours to control the blaze and clear the area at 178 Nebo Rd., near Hempstead Drive and Lancer Drive. That is the listed address of both Scoly’s Hometown Market and Harper’s Market & Grocery Store.
Just after midnight, Alectra Utilities said 1,144 businesses and homes were without power due to a forced outage that requested by City of Hamilton emergency services. The expected time of resumption was 2 a.m.

Photos shared to the HFD’s social media accounts showed that they had brought out aerial ladders, which are often used when firefighters pivot to defensive actions in order to keep the fire from spreading, after the building may be beyond saving.
Earlier, automated tweets indicated that 12 HFD vehicles were sent to the scene.
