Florida flights delayed out of Pearson in Mississauga.

Flights to and from several Florida destinations are facing delays today at Pearson Airport in Mississauga as severe thunderstorms tear across the southern U.S.

Pearson officials posted a “heads up” to social media Thursday morning for people travelling between Canada’s busiest airport and Florida.

They noted flights bound for Tampa, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale are all facing schedule disruptions over the course of the morning and afternoon.

Meanwhile, Tampa International Airport officials posted news of a weather alert to their social media.

“Due to thunderstorms developing across the region, some flights in and out of Tampa may be delayed,” they wrote in a post to X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier this morning, Pearson authorities urged travellers on this side of the border to “pack an umbrella” as rain is expected to blanket much of the GTA and southern Ontario on Thursday.

They added they’re keeping an eye on the weather elsewhere as well.

“We are monitoring a band of rainy weather moving over parts of the U.S. Midwest and southern Ontario,” airport officials said in a post to X. “Operation-wise, we’re off to a good start this morning as we expect a busy travel day with around 125,000 travellers flowing through the terminals on board over 950 flights.”
