Stone-heaving vandal(s) damage cars in St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Thorold

Almost $20,000 in damage was done to cars in five Niagara communities this morning after several windows were smashed with large rocks.

The Niagara Region Police Service (NRPS) say there are 18 new investigations concerning damage that happened to multiple vehicles in the early morning on Thursday (June 30).

The acts are believed to have occurred between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m. in the following areas:

  • St. Catharines: Martindale Road, Seventh Street, Chartwell Court
  • Thorold: Juneberry Road, Keefer Road, Hawthorn Avenue, Kenny Court
  • Niagara Falls: Northwood Drive, Oakridge Drive, Cardinal Drive
  • Niagara-on-the-Lake: Four Mile Creek Road
  • Pelham: Buckley Trail, Lookout Street, Timmsdale Crescent

Residents and business owners in the affected areas are encouraged to check their security surveillance video for suspicious activity during the early hours of June 30.

Police said the “nature of the damage” is similar to a chain of 16 investigations into damages to cars and a house in Grimsby that occurred on Tuesday (June 28).

Some of the stones that were used to damage the windows are similar to garden or driveway stones. Members of the public who find they are missing similar stones are asked to contact the detectives at NRPS.

No suspect information from the incidents on June 30 is available at this time, NRPS says.

Information from the June 28 investigation described a suspect as a white male who is about six feet tall with a thin build. He was believed to be operating a dark-coloured car, similar to a Honda Civic.

He was shirtless and wearing dark pants, a dark baseball hat and a blue medical mask.
