Police tracked a stolen vehicle from Pearson Airport in Mississauga to a community near the U.S. border.

The incident started on March 4 at 10:30 p.m. when police got a report of a stolen vehicle in the Walpole Island area, OPP said in a press release.

Walpole Island is a First Nation community east of Chatham, Ontario, next to the U.S. border.

The owner of the vehicle provided tracking information, which showed it had been taken from Pearson International Airport earlier in the day and ended up on Blackbird Lane on Walpole Island, police said.

Members of the Walpole Island Police Service and Lambton County OPP responded and found the vehicle.

Joseph Altiman, 33, of Walpole Island First Nation, faces charges of possession of property obtained by crime – over $5,000.

Altiman was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
