A trio of alleged identity thieves from Brampton and Mississauga are facing over a dozen combined charges after a stolen car crashed into a building in Orillia last weekend.

The Orillia OPP say officers were called about a suspicious vehicle on West St. North just after 12:30 a.m. on Saturday morning (Oct. 15).

When officers located the vehicle, the driver took off with multiple occupants inside fleeing the area at high speeds, and police say officers did not chase the vehicle due to public safety concerns.

Police reportedly received multiple traffic complaints about the vehicle, which then crashed into a residential building on High Street.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot, but police say they were found a short distance away with the help of an OPP Canine unit.

Investigators say the vehicle was reported stolen, and officers found numerous IDs as well as credit and debit cards in the vehicle that did not belong to any of the occupants.
