Staff and students at Makwendam Public School in Burlington show their enthusiasm

Some of the staff and students at the newly-named Makwendam Public School in Burlington displayed their makeshift signage celebrating their new moniker.

The school was formerly named after Egerton Ryerson, whose tarnished legacy is seeing his name removed from public places across the country.

The new name was adopted unanimously at last night Halton District School Board meeting and goes into effect immediately.
