A man is facing charges after a woman was stabbed early Saturday morning in Hamilton.

Police say officers responded to the area of Fennell Avenue East and East 26th Street shortly before 3 a.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing.

A woman was found suffering from minor stab wounds. She was treated for her injuries and remains in stable condition, Hamilton Police say. Additional information on the victim, including her age and place of residence, has not been released at this time.

Subsequently, a suspect was arrested at the scene.

Police have charged a 41-year-old man from Hamilton with aggravated assault and arson.

As part of the investigation, Fennell Avenue East was closed between East 28th Street and Upper Sherman Avenue while forensic investigators processed the scene. Police say the road is expected to reopen once the investigation is complete.
