St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton announced that effective Jan. 28, all inpatients can be visited by their designated caregivers and support people with exceptions.

St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) announced that effective Friday (Jan. 28), all inpatients can be visited by their designated caregivers and support people unless there’s an active outbreak or high alert for COVID-19.

Only one person will be permitted at a bedside at one time.

A caregiver or support person is described by St. Joe’s as “an essential partner determined by the patient.” The person must be designated by the patient on admission and can be updated every 14 days or at the patient’s request.

Each patient is permitted to have up to two vaccinated caregivers or support people with the following exceptions:

  • Families of an End of Life patient as determined by the clinical team
  • Partners of women giving birth
  • Partners of post-partum women
  • Parents of infants in Special Care Nursery
  • Proof of medical exemption for vaccination

Outpatient accompaniment continues by exception only.

St. Joe’s requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination for all visitors.
