Police have confirmed that a St. Catharines woman who went missing last New Year’s Eve has died.

On Tuesday, a forensic pathologist-odontologist engaged by Niagara Regional Police Service to examine a recently discovered deceased person confirmed that she was Katrina Blagdon, 37, of St. Catharines.

“Foul play is not suspected,” NRPS said in a media release. “Out of respect for the next of kin no further information will be released at this time.”

Police had opened a missing person investigation for Blagdon in early January. She had last been seen on Dec. 31 in the area of Vansickle Road North and Martindale Rd. in St. Catharines.

Last Wednesday (May 4), around 4 p.m., the NRPS was contacted by St. Catharines Hydro employees working near the Heywood Generating Station in the Port Dalhousie area of St. Catharines. Employees had discovered the body of deceased person in the water.

Detectives from 1 District, the Forensic Services Unit and the Marine Unit commenced the investigation. The coroner attended the scene. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination and positive identification in Toronto.
