A 73-year-old St. Catharines retiree hit it big using family birthdays for his numbers and netting a $100,000 lottery win.

Terrence Byberg matched the last six of seven ENCORE numbers in exact order in the Jan. 27 LOTTO MAX draw to collect the prize.

Byberg, a regular player of LOTTO MAX and LOTTO 6/49 who always adds ENCORE, said “I like to play my own numbers that are comprised of family birthdays.”

While at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings, the grandfather said his wife was comparing his numbers to the winning numbers on OLG.ca when she discovered his win. “She said ‘I think you won big,’ and was ecstatic!”

He plans to share his winnings with family and donate some to charity. “It feels very surreal,” he concluded.

The winning ticket was purchased at Big Bee Convenience & Food Mart on Geneva Street in St. Catharines.
