If you’re doing a major renovation to your property in St. Catharines (or building something new entirely), you can now apply and pay for permits online.

Recently, the city announced the launch of phase one of its new building permit application portal. The portal will allow residents, contractors and developers looking to renovate an existing property or build a new one to apply and pay for permits here

According to the city, the portal can be used to fill out and track permit applications to construct, renovate, add on to, or demolish houses (all types), apartment buildings and hotels.

Payments can also be made online.

“The new system streamlines our current processes and allows residents and developers the flexibility to apply for certain building permits outside of normal business hours, track their application status and request inspections,” said Director Tami Kitay, planning and building services for the city, in a statement.

“We are looking forward to a future expansion where we will also be able to receive industrial, commercial and institutional permit applications through the portal.”

The city says more features will be added over time, such as the ability to apply for minor variances, property severances and site plan agreements.

The site could also eventually allow for business licensing and renewal applications.
