St. Catharines pair charged with shotgun, ammunition offences

A St. Catharines man and woman are facing charges connected with illegally having a “ghost gun” – in this case, a shotgun with the serial numbers filed off.

An investigation into the pair led to a house on Queentson St. near Church St. when Niagara Police, armed with a search warrant, raided the place on March 23 at 11:30 am, finding the shotgun and a stash of ammunition.

Knowing weapons could be involved, the police closed off the street while they searched the home, just as a safety precaution.

While in the house, police found the gun, 9 mm and 22 caliber ammunition, as well as shot gun ammunition on the woman.

Daniel Oliver Price, 56, of St. Catharines has been charged with possessing a prohibited firearm with no license, possessing a prohibited firearm knowing there was no license, possessing a firearm with a tampered serial number, careless storage of a firearm and possessing a firearm, weapon, or ammunition while on prohibition.

Sarah Catharine Utman, 45, of St. Catharines has been charged with possessing a prohibited firearm with no license, possessing a prohibited firearm knowing there was no license, possessing a firearm with a tampered serial number and careless storage of a firearm.

They were both held in custody for a video bail hearing at the courthouse in St. Catharines today (March 24).
