St. Catharines neighbourhood has high COVID-19 rate of over 23%

One St. Catharines neighbourhood is currently in the province’s top 50 for high COVID-19 positivity rates.

Toronto-based research group ICES listed the top 50 postal codes in Ontario with high COVID-19 positivity for the week of Jan. 30 to Feb. 5

One is in St. Catharines: Postal code L2W, which is reporting 23.08% positivity.

L2W is the postal code with the 38th highest COVID-19 positivity in Ontario.

ICES also says case counts reported since December 31, 2021 represent an underestimate of the true number of individuals with COVID-19, due to changes in eligibility for SARS-CoV-2 PCR testing.

For the week of Jan. 30 to Feb. 5, Niagara Region had the 12th highest COVID-19 positivity out of Ontario’s 34 public health units (PHUs), reporting 16.64% positivity.

The province overall is listed 24th at 13.42% positivity.
