St. Catharines MP Chris Bittle was picked to be the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Canadian Heritage.

Selected by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Bittle will serve alongside the minister of the portfolio, Pablo Rodriguez.

While the title seems a little misleading in this day and age, it basically means that Bittle will assist Rodriguez in his parliamentary duties for the ministry, not a new role for him as he was previously Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

Also, in Canada’s politics, it’s considered something of a training ground for the next round of Ministers-to-be.

For his part, Bittle is excited with the portfolio. “Canadian arts, culture and heritage tell the stories about who we are as Canadians and I am honoured to serve as Parliamentary Secretary,” he said.

“This role is an exciting opportunity to support the work of Canadian artists, musicians, and those who work to create Canadian festivals, productions, films and publish the work of Canadian storytellers,” he added.
