With the Niagara River Lions returning to a live home crowd tonight (July 20) at the Meridian Centre in St Catharines, Mayor Walter Sendzik took to social media twice – once to welcome the team back in front of folks in the stands.

The other was to show River Lions’ coach Victor Raso that even at age 49, the Mayor still has all the right stuff when it comes to mad hoops skills.

While it was filmed on July 17 for the game against the Hamilton Honey Badgers, a 71-68 win for the River Lions, that crowd was exclusive to season-ticket holders only.

Tonight’s game against the winless Saskatchewan Rattlers is wide open to the public.

On social media, Sendzik assured the public that “the staff of Meridian Centre have worked hard to make it a safe and fun experience for all attendees.Get your tickets, cheer on the River Lions and support our local business before or after the game. Looking forward to seeing that community spirit come back alive!”

And just in case, Raso does find himself short on the bench in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) game, Sendzik is certain he could fill that vacancy. Time to revisit those hoop skills
