If there’s anyone on Lake Ontario this summer who has run to the shore for a chance to see or even board Theodore Tugboat, it would be tough to imagine whom.

However, we do know you cannot count St Catharines Mayor Walter Sendzik among them.

Not only was he shore-side when Theodore Tugboat, the star of the TV show that had an eight year run on the CBC and PBS, docked in Port Dalhousie yesterday (July 20), so, too, was his dog, Luna.

It seems Lori Mambella, the City’s Manager of Recreation Programs and Cultural Services, bent over backward to make sure the Mayor and his pooch would personally meet the TV star.

And Sendzik was thrilled.

On his social media after thanking Mambella and her staff, he added, “Shout out to our Economic Development (and) Tourism St. Catharines for their work to make it a great experience for our residents, young and old!”

“Lots of smiling faces today in Port Dalhousie!”

In fact, as the Chair of Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Cities Initiative/Alliance Grands Lacs St-Laurent, Sendzik has a special interest in any activities in Lake Ontario. The group is made up of over 100 Mayors in municipalities bordered by Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence River.

Including Mayors on the America side, they have one job – to restore and protect the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River.
