A retired St. Catharines man who won over $180,000 in the July 13 LOTTO 6/49 draw not only couldn’t believe his luck, he had an equally hard time getting his wife to believe him.

Stan Williams, 68, a retired swimming instructor and lifeguard, won a second place prize worth $188,047.10 in the draw and just for good measure, he also won $2 on his ENCORE selection, bringing his total winnings to $188,049.10.

He said it took him a good 20 minutes to convince his wife he wasn’t playing a joke on her. “She told me to go away and that she didn’t believe me,” he laughed.

A regular lottery player since the early days, Williams noted, “This ticket was a free play I added ENCORE to. I usually save my free plays for a larger jackpot, but I stepped out of my routine this time.”

The 68-year-old father and grandfather said he was sitting in his sunroom when he discovered his win. “I used the OLG App and didn’t believe what I was seeing. I scanned my ticket again and again.”

He plans to invest his prize money and celebrate his win with a nice dinner out with his family. “I also plan to share some with my children and get myself a new TV,” he said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Avondale on Bunting Road in St. Catharines.
