A St. Catharines man who claimed his SUV was stolen from a Fort Erie bar and then driven into a nearby home was arrested on May 27 by Niagara Police and charged with both dangerous and impaired driving.

On May 21, a black 2017 GMC Yukon smashed into the corner of the house on Ridgeway Road in Fort Erie, causing significant damage.

The house was damaged so badly that the Fort Erie Fire Department said it unsafe to stay there. One man inside the house was injured although EMS said it was minor.

The owner of the Yukon was on the scene and told police it was stolen from a bar on Erie Road where they had been.  Witnesses at the collision told police they saw a male run from the scene who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

In the end, police went to the St. Catharines house of the SUV owner and arrested him.

Chaz McLean-Hill, 32, of St. Catharines has been charged with dangerous driving and impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

He was released from custody with a future court date.
