St. Catharines man faces stabbing charge

An argument between two men in St. Catharines escalated into a stabbing on Wednesday afternoon, police say.

Niagara Regional Police Service says that around 1 p.m. on Sept. 1, they responded to a call in the area of Geneva and Church streets. They found that a 33-year-old man had got into an argument with a 50-year-old male.

The dispute carried on to the point that the older man slashed the victim and then stabbed him. The victim’s injuries are considered non-life threatening.

Michael Calder, 50, of St. Catharines, is facing one count of aggravated assault. He was held in custody and is expected to have a bail hearing on Thursday (Sept. 2).
